Let's talk about the movie "Ready or Not". SPOILERS AHEAD.
PRO: The performances. Across the board, fun and complex. Cliche, but in a good way. Adam Brody has been in my 'laminated 5' for some time. Samara Weaving is a very strong heroine and a round of applause is necessary for Andie MacDowell who comes at us with some fantastic eye brow raises.
CON: Some of the movie is SO ridiculous that it's hard to take the parts they want you to take seriously... seriously.
PRO: The deaths. They're bloody and fun and some are definitely shocking. Especially Andie MacDowell's.
CON: it's been compared to "GET OUT", which is far more deep/meaningful and better made film over all. The tone is similar, but the meat and potatoes are not as evident in RoN.
PRO: The humor. There are HYSTERICAL moments in this movie.
CON: The historical threat this family faces is so ridiculous that it only raises the stakes fro the actors and not the audience.
PRO: Love that they're a family of game inventors and the newest family members are expected to play a game as part of the tradition. There IS a strong foundation with this film's concept, it just gets a little too 'out there' for me.
CON: The characters. None of them were particularly well defined, other than Adam Brody's character (who sometimes still confused me with his motivations.) I think it would have been stronger to explore WHY he was staring at Grace all the time before the wedding.
PRO/CON: The Ending. Loved that they all exploded. Hilarious. Was bummed about Adam Brody and I'm not sure what I would have rather have happen to her at the very end. Maybe she should have exploded as well since technically, by playing the game, she became a member of the family regardless. I think I was waiting for her to explode.
